LABOR has been unable to rule out a new tax or levy to bankroll its National Disability Insurance Scheme, conceding it has not finalised a funding stream despite having made delivery of the reform a centrepiece of last week's 2012-13 budget.

Finance Minister Penny Wong has instead intensified pressure on state governments to contribute, attacking the states and Tony Abbott for failing to provide bipartisan support for the $13 billion-a-year reform.

Axess.com.au member, Bolshy Diva and disability advocate Samantha Connor as well as several other people with experience in the disability sector had been appointed on a panel of experts to help with the implementation and transition to the new NDIS.

I ventured down to Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast this past Saturday and I must say I was impressed with the overall facilities especially when it came to people with disabilities.

Metricon Stadium is home to the Gold Coast Suns Australian Football Club situated in the suburb of Carrara on Queensland's Gold Coast just over an hour's drive south of Brisbane.

Thank you to one of our website members who have submitted a checklist about their recent visit (March 2012) to the Cootamundra Heritage Motel in central New South Wales.

The rooms are large enough for people with all accessibility difficulties to navigate and there were no negative comments about the motel.

More than one way to cast your vote

With both the Queensland state election and local council elections coming up in the next two months I thought it would be a good opportunity to remind everyone that if you can't make it to a polling booth on election day that you can lodge a postal vote.

The postal vote is there to give every person every opportunity to be able to vote and have their say (and avoid being fined because voting is compulsory in Australia) and is very easy to do.

As someone with a disability who uses an electric wheelchair to get around I do look a little different compared to what people would consider normal, especially to kids. Not only do the media portray images of what is considered normal for beauty and body conscious able-bodied people but younger minds also take notice and tend to think that everyone is upright with four working limbs.
